Parent Newsletter, Issue 21

The Pilot Pride Parent Newsletter is produced for the parents and friends of De La Salle Collegiate. The news and notes are compiled by the school’s faculty and staff, and emailed each week during the school year.
STUDENT COUNCIL DANCE: The student councils of De La Salle and Regina are hosting a dance on Feb. 8. The semiformal dance, from 7-10 p.m., will be in the Bill Fox Gymnasium. This dance is open to all De La Salle students with student ID. Girls from any high school with an ID may attend. Cost is $10 per person. Presale tickets go on sale today in the Business Office.

TUITION ASSISTANCE APPLICATIONS: Applications for 2020-21 AOD Tuition Assistance are now available on the FACTS website. The Parent Information document and the Pastor Signature Form are both available on the AOD website or can be downloaded here. You may also download the Tuition Coordinator document which will answer many of the questions that you may have concerning the program. Read more

COURSE REQUESTS: Online Course request time for current students is scheduled for Feb. 10-14. Students and parents should be discussing next year’s class recommendations with their teachers and counselors. We strongly recommend students and parents take every opportunity to learn about next year's courses. Current and potential Advanced Placement students must pick up an AP Course Request Contract from the Counseling Office and meet with the AP teacher to discuss the course expectations. … The most-updated Curriculum Guide and a Course Selection sheet by grade level document can be found here. An instructional video showing how to select courses will be available to parents later this week.

TEEN STREET DRIVING SKILLS: Would you like your son to practice real-life driving situations that the driver’s education classes did not cover? Check out for more information about a great program designed to offer your son more confidence behind the wheel.
CANDY GRAMS: Student Council will be selling Candy Grams for a $1 beginning next week during Power Hour. The Candy grams can be sent to someone in the building or at Regina, and will be delivered on Feb. 13.
INFINITE CAMPUS TIP: Did you know you will never miss a weekly Pilot Pride Parent Newsletter and other important school communications are in the IC Parent Portal? All school-wide parent communications are not only sent to your email(s) on file, they are also archived in the IC Parent Portal as well as on the school’s website.

IB REGISTRATION SHEETS DUE: Sophomores registering for the IB Program next year must have their Registration and Commitment forms turned into the IB Office by no later than this Friday. See or email Mr. Wynn with any questions.

ACT/SAT TESTS: Juniors and sophomores may soon take the ACT/SAT test, one of the most important components in their college application process. Students may take the ACT exam in February, April, June or July. They also have the option to take the SAT in March, May or June. 
SENIOR PARENTS: Graduation tickets are available for pickup from Mrs. Michol in Room 216.
Each family receives eight tickets. Tickets are necessary for entrance into the ceremony. In addition, a senior mailing will be sent out, please look for it because it entails all of the senior events. 

AMAZON SMILE: Sign up for an Amazon Smile account, and De La Salle Collegiate will receive a percentage of any purchases you make. When prompted to select a charity enter De La Salle Collegiate and select from the list that appears.
PARENT ATHLETIC MEETINGS: The following spring sports will host informational parent meetings in the next five weeks. Track (Feb. 25 at 6 p.m.); Golf (Feb. 26 at 6 p.m.); Baseball 
(March 5 at 6 p.m.); and Lacrosse (March 5 at 7 p.m.). Each of these meetings will be held in the Tarmac.

MUSICAL TICKETS ON SALE: Tickets are currently on sale for our 2020 spring musical, Nice Work If You Can Get It. Three performances will run Feb. 21-22. Tickets are $15, and can be purchased online or by contacting Mr. Kevin Fitzhenry at 586-541-6210.

THINK SPRING: This year’s Alternative Spring Break is April 13-18. This year’s trip is to Vanceburg, KY. It’s open to all students 16 years or older. Last year’s trip was amazing: meeting locals, living simply, working hard, and making connections with students around the country. 

MCREST: For the second straight year, De La Salle will be part of Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team (MCREST). The dates are June 7-13. Please mark your calendars and plan to donate a few hours to help the temporarily homeless in this community.

MORE SERVICE EVENTS: Macomb Feeding the Need (Feb. 3): Immigration and Christian Justice Student Conference (Feb. 6); Red Cross Blood Drive (March 19): Young Lasallian Leadership Assembly, Buffalo, N.Y., (July dates TBD). … See Ms. Ragona to sign up or learn more about these service opportunities.

CBA/MOMS CLUB: The next general meeting is this Thursday at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. All are welcome for the Valentine-themed gathering. … The CBA Spring Fantasy 2020 Fashion Show is March 18 at Penna’s of Sterling. Invitation and Fashion Show grand raffle tickets should be in your mailbox. Reservations are $70 but available at a discounted rate of $65 now through Feb 15. Purchase online at The Pilot Hangar

DADS CLUB: The next general meeting will take place on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. Be sure to RSVP by this Friday to ensure there's enough food and drink. … The Dads Club is looking for volunteers for the remaining home varsity basketball games. The next game is this Friday against Detroit Catholic Central. If you’re available to help with any remaining games, please sign up through SignUpGenius. Even if the spots are all filled, more dads are always welcome.
