The Pilot Pride Parent Newsletter is produced for the parents and friends of De La Salle Collegiate. The news and notes are compiled by the school’s faculty and staff, and emailed each week during the school year.
 
THIS WEEK AT THE COLLEGIATE
JEOPARDY’S A HIT: For 23 consecutive years, social studies teacher Thaier Mukhtar has conducted the school’s annual Jeopardy tournament. The 2020 version of the popular event drew 340 students on 85 teams in two divisions: upperclassmen and lowerclassmen. The one-game elimination tourney spanned two months - beginning Jan. 7 - with finals hitting last Tuesday and Wednesday. READ MORE HERE.

HONORS CONVOCATION: Today is the last day to make reservations for this year’s Spring Honors Convocation Dinner. Cost for the March 9 event is $25 per person. Reservations will be recorded automatically with payment which can be made in person at the Business Office or after hours using the school’s secure drop box outside the Athletic entrance. Please make checks payable to De La Salle Collegiate. … This year’s dinner will be held at Zuccaro’s Banquet Hall, located at 46601 Gratiot in Chesterfield.  

PACZKI DAY: This Tuesday, De La Salle will celebrate Fat Tuesday with traditional Polish donuts from Srodek’s in Hamtramck. This is a fundraiser for the De La Salle Blackfeet School in Montana, which was damaged by a fire last month. Paczki are $2.50 each; $25 dozen.

PILOT HANGAR SALE: To celebrate Leap Year this weekend, the Pilot Hangar is conducting a huge sale on all clearance items. When you add clearance items to your cart, and use the code LEAP2020, the sale will automatically take 50% off all the already clearance prices. The sale is from this Friday through Sunday only.

GRADUATION TICKETS: If your son has not picked up his graduation tickets, please have him see Mrs. Michol in Room 216 this week.

OTHER SCHOOL NEWS
THE RAFFLE: The annual Raffle starts next Monday. Your sons should have received their tickets last Wednesday during their Advisory class.

BLOOD DRIVE: The American Red Cross is hosting a Blood Drive in the Bill Fox Gymnasium on March 19. Look for further information on scheduling an appointment. Many thanks to junior Anthony Elias for organizing the blood drive as part of his International Baccalaureate requirements. Students that are 16 years old may donate with a parental waiver.

SENIOR ALL-NIGHT PARTY: Looking for those interested in helping out with the Senior All-Night Party by donating gift cards that will be raffled off to seniors at the party. Also, if you would like to be a volunteer at the Senior All-Night Party, please contact Mrs. Page. Click here to sign up to donate treats and/or decorations.

CHRISTIAN BROTHERS DINNER: The annual fundraising dinner will be held April 30 at Penna’s of Sterling. Tickets are now on sale to alumni, fathers, and prospective dads. There are no physical tickets this year. Tickets are now available online

CHRISTIAN BROTHERS CLASSIC: The second annual Christian Brothers Classic golf outing, in honor of Ed Martel ‘87 will be held on June 22 at the historic Detroit Golf Club.
 
EXTRACURRICULAR NEWS
PARENT ATHLETIC MEETINGS: The following spring sports will host informational parent meetings in the next five weeks. Track (this Tuesday at 6 p.m.); Golf (this Wednesday at 6 p.m.); Baseball (March 5 at 6 p.m.); and Lacrosse (March 5 at 7 p.m.). Each of these meetings will be held in the Tarmac. … There will be a Baseball player tryout information meeting on March 4 during Power Hour A in Room 322.

CHRISTIAN SERVICE
IMMERSION TRIP: The Alternative Spring Break trip is April 13-18. We will be serving again this year at Nazareth Farm in Salem, W.V. It’s open to students 16 years or older. Meet locals, live simply and make connections with students around the country. Please see Ms. Ragona for details.

MCREST: For the second year, De La Salle will be part of Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team (MCREST). The dates are June 7-13. Please mark your calendars and plan to donate a few hours to help the temporarily homeless in our community. Clubs, groups and teams will be tapped to help out, and individuals are always welcome.

RAINBOW ELEMENTARY: Mentorship opportunities at Rainbow Elementary are available for April 21-May 15. Interested students need to have a 3.25 grade average. Please see Ms. Ragona for details on this on-going service with second and third graders.

FISH FRIES: Call your parish and look for ways to serve others during Lent. St. Isaac Jogues has put out a call for help. Contact SIJ’s Shaun Rihacek to sign up. 

CHRISTIAN SERVICE INFO: A friendly reminder that underclassmen are required to perform a minimum of 10 hours of Christian Service, and juniors and seniors have a minimum of 15 hours. Christian Service hours should be brought to Ms. Ragona to be recorded.                 

PARENT GROUP NEWS
CBA/MOMS CLUB: The CBA Spring Fantasy 2020 Fashion Show is March 18 at Penna’s of Sterling. Invitation and Fashion Show grand raffle tickets should be in your mailbox. Reservations are $70 and available online at The Pilot Hangar. … The next general meeting is March 5.

DADS CLUB: The last meeting of the year will be the Thank You Dinner held in May. The Dads Club will send out a reminder email prior to the meeting.
