Parent Newsletter, Issue 5

The Pilot Pride Parent Newsletter is produced for the parents and friends of De La Salle Collegiate. The news and notes are compiled by the school’s faculty and staff, and emailed each week during the school year.
 
THIS WEEK AT THE COLLEGIATE
CLOTHING DRIVE: The Catholic High School League is sponsoring a competitive clothing drive between Catholic high schools in the archdiocese. Barrels will be in the front hall of De La Salle this week only for your donations of clothes.

OTHER SCHOOL NEWS
TOWN HALL MEETING: All Parents of De La Salle Collegiate students are invited to attend our first Town Hall Meeting on Oct. 9 at 6:30 pm in the TARMAC. Come and meet our new faculty and staff as they discuss student scholastic life, learn our new school vision, see the unveiling of our new branding and website. This is a wonderful opportunity to ask questions, express your concerns, wants, and needs as a parent community. It is our mission to develop your sons and bring them closer to Jesus. We need your partnership and support and value your opinion.
 
PSAT/NMSQT: This year’s test day is scheduled for Oct. 16. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will be completing these standardized tests beginning at 8 a.m. 

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES: The annual conferences are scheduled for Oct. 17 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. A Sign-up Genius will be made available soon for parents to sign up for time slots to meet with teachers and counselors.

IB DIPLOMA PROGRAM INFORMATION: Parents of all freshmen and sophomores are encouraged to find out more about the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Parents can also anticipate an information evening in early November. 

1926 SOCIETY BREAKFAST: On Nov. 8, the senior class will attend a special breakfast event at the Detroit Athletic Club to learn about the importance of philanthropy. Daniel Loepp, Class of 1975 and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, will address the students. Seniors need to turn in their permission slip and a donation of $19.26 by Nov. 1. Please include your shirt size for a 1926 Society polo shirt.

EXTRACURRICULAR NEWS
SPORTSMEN’S CLUB: The Sportsmen’s Club (clay target marksmen) is beginning its 15th consecutive season of safety, fun, and camaraderie. Interested students of any age should contact coach Mike Jolly in Room 602 for information.

CHRISTIAN SERVICE
RECEIVING SACRAMENTS: Are you interested in your son receiving any of the sacraments? Please have him see his Theology teacher or the Campus Ministry office to sign up.

THIS MONTH’S SERVICE EVENTS
Sept. 30-Oct. 4: Clothing drive for St. Vincent de Paul. Barrels will be in the front hall of the school for your donations.

PARENT GROUP NEWS
BECOME A PARENT AMBASSADOR: The Admissions Office is looking for parents and guardians who are interested in connecting with families of current and prospective students to advocate for De La Salle in the community. Any parent/guardian can apply to become a Parent Ambassador volunteer by filling out this brief interest form. If you would like to learn more about the Parent Ambassador Program click here.

CBA/MOMS CLUB: Check your mailbox this week for the official Craft Show Book and order form. Deadline to order pierogi, fresh greenery, and pies is Oct. 25. The CBA Holiday Arts & Crafts Show is Nov 22-23. Tickets for the Sip & Shop are on sale now through the Pilot Hangar. Tickets are presale only. The Crafts Show is open to the public on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
… The Crafts Show committee is in need of pine cones. Looking for the shorter, fatter kind - not long and skinny. Please bring to general meetings or send bags into school office, attention: CBA Craft Show. … The next CBA general meeting and rosary is this Thursday at 7 p.m. in the school chapel. All are welcome. The rosary is followed by the meeting, then dinner and drinks in the cafeteria. … Many volunteer opportunities are available for the Sip & Shop and Crafts Show. DADS CLUB: The next Dads Club support event is the Homecoming Game against Detroit Catholic Central at Wayne State on Oct. 4. This is a big game and requires a lot of dads for security, 50-50 raffle, and more.
