Parent Newsletter, Issue 7

The Pilot Pride Parent Newsletter is produced for the parents and friends of De La Salle Collegiate. The news and notes are compiled by the school’s faculty and staff, and emailed each week during the school year.
 
THIS WEEK AT THE COLLEGIATE
PICTURE RETAKES: Patrick Studios will be at school this Tuesday from 8-11 a.m. for those students, faculty and staff who wishes to have their school photo retaken.

PSAT TESTING: This Wednesday, students grades 9-11 will take the PSAT exam. Testing will be completed approximately 12 p.m. … The PSAT serves as a practice test for the SAT exam. It also serves as a qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program, which awards $2,500 scholarships annually to high-scoring juniors. Students are to report to designated classrooms, which can be found HERE. Chromebooks are not needed and students are to bring No. 2 pencils. Calculators are allowed; please review the list of what is accepted HERE

BROADCAST CLUB MEETING: This Wednesday, there is a Broadcast Club meeting in Room 325 at 11:30 a.m. The meeting will last about 20-25 minutes. If your son is interested in joining the Broadcast Club and would like to attend the meeting, please have him see Mr. Brendan Johnson in the Advancement Office. 

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES: The annual conferences are scheduled this Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. A Sign-up Genius is available for parents to sign up for time slots to meet with teachers and counselors. The sign-up form will close at 6 p.m. this Wednesday. 

OTHER SCHOOL NEWS
FINAL SPIRIT WEEK STANDINGS: Baseball (3-4) 310 points, Football (2-5) 295 points; and Basketball (1-6) 285 points. Many thanks to the faculty, staff and students for a fun-filled week of school spirit! 

THE LASALLIAN FUND: Watch your mailbox this week for our annual fundraising appeal, The Lasallian Fund. We ask all De La Salle alumni, friends, and families to donate to The Lasallian Fund each year to keep tuition as low as possible and to continue to offer a quality Lasallian education to young men. We thank you in advance for your generous donations.

1926 SOCIETY BREAKFAST: On Nov. 8, every senior is expected to attend a special breakfast event at the Detroit Athletic Club to learn about the importance of philanthropy. Daniel Loepp, Class of 1975 and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, will address the students. Seniors need to turn in their permission slip and a donation of $19.26 by Nov. 1. Please include your shirt size for a 1926 Society polo shirt.

YEARBOOK:  You can now order this year's yearbook at yearbookforever.com. Once you are in search for De La Salle. Cost is only $75 if you order prior to Nov. 1. Any questions email Mr. Singelyn. … If you know anyone from the Class of 2019 please encourage them to email Mr. Singelyn to make arrangements to get their yearbook from last year.

GOLF MEETING: If you’re interested in playing golf for the Pilots, please plan to attend an information meeting in Room 602 on Oct. 29 at 11:55 a.m.

BOWLING MEETING: Parent/Student meeting for all those interested in bowling for the Pilots, please plan to attend an information meeting in the TARMAC on Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m.

WAMS TICKETS ON SALE: Tickets for the fall production of Clue On Stage are now available for the three performances, Dec. 13-15. CBA/MOMS CLUB: The CBA Holiday Arts & Crafts Show is Nov 22-23. Tickets for the Sip & Shop are on sale now through the Pilot Hangar. Tickets are presale only. The Crafts Show is open to the public on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Deadline to order pies, wreaths, and pierogis is Oct. 25 through the Pilot Hanger… The Crafts Show committee is in need of pine cones. Looking for the shorter, fatter kind - not long and skinny.
