Parent Newsletter, Issue 9

The Pilot Pride Parent Newsletter is produced for the parents and friends of De La Salle Collegiate. The news and notes are compiled by the school’s faculty and staff, and emailed each week during the school year.
 
THIS WEEK AT THE COLLEGIATE
DISCOVERY DAYS CONTINUE: Thanks to our student, parent and teacher ambassadors who helped us with our first Discovery Days pancake breakfast open house yesterday. This Tuesday is our Discovery Days ice cream social open house from 5-8 p.m. If you know of middle-school students interested in a Lasallian Catholic education, please encourage them to register for Tuesday’s mini-open house event.

SOPHOMORE RETREAT: The first of three sophomore service retreats is this Thursday. Students in Theology sections 1 and 2 are scheduled to attend this retreat. Remember to pack a lunch and drink. Dress for the weather; some people will be outside briefly.

OTHER SCHOOL NEWS
MARCHING BAND: Congratulations to the Marching Pilots, who earned a First Division rating for the fifth straight year - and ninth time in 10 years - at this month’s MSBOA Marching Festival. Their First Division rating is the highest possible mark a band can achieve, given by a panel of three judges who rate the bands on music, marching, and general effect. Way to go Marching Pilots!

1926 SOCIETY BREAKFAST: On Nov. 8, all seniors will attend a special breakfast event at the Detroit Athletic Club to learn about the importance of philanthropy. Daniel Loepp, Class of 1975 and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, will address the students. Seniors need to turn in their permission slip and a donation of $19.26 by this Friday. Students must wear a dress shirt, tie and sport coat to this event that will be held at the Detroit Athletic Club. We are collecting polo shirt sizes in Advisory classes this week.

EXTRACURRICULAR NEWS
GOLF MEETING: If you’re interested in playing golf for the Pilots, please plan to attend an information meeting in Room 602 this Tuesday at 11:55 a.m.

BASKETBALL MEETING: If your son is interested in playing basketball for the Pilots, please plan to attend a parents information meeting in the TARMAC this Wednesday at 7 p.m. Key information regarding tryouts and  program expectations will be discussed. 

WRESTLING MEETINGS: If you’re interested in wrestling for the Pilots, please plan to attend an information meeting in the TARMAC this Thursday during Power Hour A. … A parents meeting will be held on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.

BOWLING MEETING: Parent/Student meeting for all those interested in bowling for the Pilots, please plan to attend an information meeting in the TARMAC on Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m.

WAMS TICKETS ON SALE: Tickets for the fall production of Clue On Stage are now available for the three performances, Dec. 13-15. CHRISTIAN SERVICE
RECEIVING SACRAMENTS: Are you interested in your son receiving any of the sacraments? Please have him see his Theology teacher or the Campus Ministry office to sign up.

STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: To sign up for service hours at this year’s Crafts Show, go to Sign Up Genius online or see Campus Ministry. A variety of time slots are available from Nov. 20-23. This is a great opportunity to help out your school.

PARENT GROUP NEWS
CBA/MOMS CLUB: The CBA Holiday Arts & Crafts Show is Nov 22-23. Tickets for the Sip & Shop are on sale now through the Pilot Hangar. Tickets are presale only. The Crafts Show is open to the public on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Crafts Show committee is in need of pine cones. Looking for the shorter, fatter kind, not long and skinny. … Many volunteer opportunities are available for the Sip & Shop and Crafts Show. Volunteer at signupgenius.com. Click the magnifying glass icon and then enter dlscba@delasallehs.com. … PIANO PLAYERS NEEDED: If your son plays piano, the CBA would be happy to schedule him for an hour to play Christmas music on Nov. 23 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. He would perform at the school’s front entrance on a $32,000 Yamaha Concert Grand Piano. DADS CLUB: The next Dads Club meeting is Nov. 6 in the school cafeteria at 7 p.m. RSVP to dlsdads@delasallehs.com so enough food and drink in on hand.
