Pilot Football Teams Sees ‘Light’ at the End of the Tunnel: Adds Offensive Coordinator

Although the DLS football team is still waiting to continue playing in the 2020 MHSAA playoffs,  head coach Dan Rohn has been busy, adding experienced coach James (Jim) Light to the Pilots staff as Offensive Coordinator.

Most recently, Light has been a coach at Macomb’s Dakota High School. In his three years with the Cougars, he amassed a 20-9 record while averaging 30 points-per-game as the team's passing game coordinators/RPO, and wide receivers coach. Dakota ranked #1 in total offense in the MAC Red during the 2020 season.

“I have spent an incredible amount of time in my life, both as a player and coach, trying to build and maintain Dakota as a championship program,” Light said in a tweet (@JamesALight). “I will always cherish my time there. But I am ready for a new challenge.”

Rohn notes Light’s expertise in breaking down game film.

“We are delighted to have Light join the Pilots’ coaching staff,” Rohn said. “Once we are able to practice again, his expertise will really have an impact on our preparations and game planning.”

Light has been identified as one of the top 20 most influential high school coaches by BSN Sports. Read more

The article says “Light is a brilliant football mind, and he can often be found analyzing plays from whichever game is on at any given moment.”

Light grew up in Macomb County and graduated from Dakota. He has been married since 2012 to Dr. Kristen Light.
