March Madness continues as the DLS Mock Trial Team, which received an Honorable Mention at the Macomb Regional on March 8, 2025,
heads to East Lansing this weekend for the State Finals.
Mock Trial is a project of the Michigan Center for Civic Education (MCCC)
The Finals begin with round 1 on Friday afternoon, and then two rounds of trials on Saturday.
The Championship Round is at 4 p.m., and awards follow.
All competition takes place in actual courtrooms.
The team is led by senior captains Nolan Kas-Mikha and Luke Jablonski. The team also includes seniors Ben Aloia, Jack Madigan, Thomas Simasko, JJ Simasko, John Kajy, Brendan Harper, and Jack Randazzo. Representing the sophomore class are Evan Femminineo, Anthony Adamo, Mikos Rosati, and Jacob Kmiec.
Each mock trial team is composed of three prosecuting attorneys, three prosecution witnesses, three defense attorneys, and three defense witnesses.
Mr. Brad Robinson, the team’s faculty moderator, credits the attorney coaches, all parents, who worked to prepare the students. They are Mr. Keith Jablonski, Mr. David Femminineo, Mr. Ben Aloia, and Mr. Bartosz Kmiec.
“Their hard work paid off at the Macomb Regional where our team showcased their skills,” Robinson said.
The DLS team thought their season had ended, with the Regional Honorable Mention, but found out a few days later that they would be at states as a "wild card" entry.
Nolan said the group is preparing for this weekend’s competition with after-school sessions in courtrooms.
