HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The De La Salle Collegiate cross-country team achieved a perfect score of 15 against Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in Monday’s dual meet at Lake St. Clair Metro Park.
“A perfect score is when all of your team’s runners finish in the top seven,” Pilots coach Sandy Buchanan said. “I’ve never seen that in my 11 years with the team.”
The top seven spots were captured by senior captain Preston Earl, freshman Robert Trebnik, juniors Peyton Ross, Donovan Davis, Anthony Youngblood, senior Tanot Devereaux, and junior Dylan Petruzzello.
The Pilots lost in a dual meet earlier this month to Brother Rice but is confident going into their next against Detroit Catholic Central on Sept. 21.
“Each time we run it’s like a job interview for the top-seven spots,” Buchanan said. “Show us what you’ve got.”
Buchanan is working to find tournaments for the Pilots, since large gatherings are COVID-19 restricted, and teams are running in groups of four at those events that are still on the schedule.
Due to COVID-19, mask restrictions were initially in place, although the MHSAA has now rescinded its directive requiring masks during an active race.
