ACADEMIC SPOTLIGHT: Senior Keegan Burns Considers Academic Offers

For senior Keegan Burns, the college acceptances and scholarship offers are rolling in.

He has already received acceptances at seven universities, including the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and has academic offers totaling over $270,000.

With a 4.27 GPA, Burns is waiting on acceptances from some additional colleges before making a final decision - although he is leaning toward Michigan.

He intends to major in Political Science.

Keegan is enrolled in several Advanced Placement and Honors Courses his senior year, and also played on the 2021 state championship football team.

He has been involved in the DLS Jeopardy tournaments all four years, as well as the Mock Trial competition and the National Honor Society.

Burns cites faculty member Tahaier Mukhtar as a particular teacher who has made a difference.

“He pushes you to do your best,” Burns said.

Burns attended grade school and middle school in the Chippewa Valley School District but chose to attend De La Salle due to its smaller size.

His grandfather, an Austin High School (Detroit) graduate from 1963, offered to cover his DLS tuition.

He lives in Macomb Township and attends St. Paul of Tarsus in Clinton Township. His parents are Eric and Sheree Burns.

Burns has two cousins who are also DLS alumni: Charlie Kafoury 2019 and Michael Kafoury 2020, the class valedictorian.
