Senior Spotlight: Antonio "Tony" Landa

Senior Antonio “Tony” Landa was most recently accepted to the Broad College of Business at Michigan State University where he plans to study Finance, with a minor in Sports Management. He chose MSU because of the great business program and says “I am excited to start.” 

His older brother Tommy, DLS 2019, also attended MSU. 

Antonio has also been accepted at the University of Detroit-Mercy, Grand Valley, and Oakland University. 

He will graduate magna cum laude and has numerous Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses on his transcript including AP American Government, AP Environmental Science, and AP Psychology. 

Faculty member Mr. Mike Shortt ‘04 said, “Tony is always a pleasure to have in class. His attitude is consistently upbeat. To add to this, he is a superb student, always going above and beyond expectations. He is one of the students I would use as an example of what makes our school special.”

At DLS, Antonio has been involved with DECA (2024 finalist), Student Council, the Stock Market Club, and IM Sports.He also played basketball under Coach Gjon Djokaj. 

Most recently, Antonio is the leader of the current Kairos Retreat (Feb. 24 - 27). 

He attended Holy Family Regional School in Rochester Hills and chose to attend DLS because his father and brother are both alumni.

“They only ever said good things about DLS,” Antonio said. “I wanted to come to DLS because I could build a brotherhood and graduate as a respectful young man well-prepared for college.” 

He advises freshmen: “Don’t take high school for granted.” 

His best memory of De La Salle will be “Kairos and IM basketball.”

DLS Faculty member Mr. Ben Westphal, ‘16, says, “Tony is a fantastic leader in the school and in the community. This year, he was named a Kairos Leader, where he was able to help his classmates grow closer to God! Tony is a Lasallian man who has a tremendous future ahead of him at MSU.”

Antonio has a part-time job as a busboy at the Da Francesco’s Restaurant (Shelby Township) and works about 15 hours each week. 

He lives in Shelby Township with his parents Tom, DLS ‘87, and Tina. The family attends Mass at St. Kieran, also in Shelby. 

DLS Advancement Director Mr. Greg Esler has known Antonio for most of his life and said, “Antonio Landa comes from a long list of Landas who have attended De La Salle Collegiate, 11 in total. Antonio is a tremendous young man. Not only is he smart, he has a great work ethic, given to him by his parents, Tom and Tina. Antonio is a true gentleman, and he represents DLS in the highest manner."

Those other relatives include his uncle Tony Landa ’92, cousins Brain Turnbull ‘02, Eric Turnbull ‘05, Kevin Turnbull ‘06, Nino Landa ‘07, Joe Landa ‘09, and cousin-in-law Jeff Miller ‘05.
