Next fall, senior Ben Aloia is heading to Hope College in Holland, Michigan, where he plans to major in either Business Administration or Political Science.
During his high school years at De La Salle, however, Ben has been involved in a wide variety of acting activities, including appearing as a “star witness” for the DLS Mock Trial team.
Ben has won the Star Witness Award three times: once at regional competition in 2024, and twice this year, at the regionals and at states where the entire DLS Mock Trial team competed for only the second time since the group’s inception several years ago.
In addition to his “acting” role with the Mock Trial team, Ben appeared in three Regina Players productions: Mamma Mia, Hello Dolly!, and High School Musical.
He has also been a member of the DLS National Honor Society since sophomore year, the Link Crew since junior year, the school’s Choir, and the Ski and Snowboard Club.
Along the way, Ben has been an exemplary student and will graduate summa cum laude with the Class of 2025. He has taken several Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors courses including AP American Government, AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature, and AP Psychology.
Faculty member Mr. Dennis Koch, DLS ‘94, says, “Ben is an excellent student who is quiet but insightful and creative. He is one student that will always have a thorough understanding of any topic that we are discussing.”
Mr. Thaier Mukhtar also has high praise for Ben.
“He is an outstanding young man and extremely disciplined and highly respected,” Mr. Mukhtar said. “He has the charisma and confidence to excel in all aspects of life. He is a great public speaker and has the capacity to handle any challenges he encounters. Ben is one of my favorite students!”
Ben attended St. Lawrence in Utica and chose to attend De La Salle for several reasons. “My dad (Benjamin J. Aloia, Class of ‘91) is an alumnus and is close to the school and was a board member. Many other alumni encouraged me to attend.”
Ben advises freshmen to branch out and make new friends and try new activities. He says his best memory of DLS is attending Kairos in November 2024.
His summer job again this year will be working as a paid intern in the office of Congresswoman Lisa McClain (MI-09). “It is a great position where I talk to constituents and attend certain events within the district,” Ben said.
He lives in Shelby Township with his parents, Benjamin and Michele. His older brother, Lorenzo, graduated from DLS in 2024. The family attends St. John Vianney Church (Shelby Township)
