Brendan Harper is one of the top students in the Class of 2025, with a senior class load that includes five Advanced Placement (AP) courses; his junior year schedule included four AP courses. In three of his four junior year AP exams, he received fours.
Despite this heavy academic load, Brendan is involved with numerous school activities and has played lacrosse since his freshman year.
His AP load as a junior included American Government, Calculus AB, Chemistry, and English Language and Composition. He also took Honors Spanish 3.
As a senior, Brendan is in Biology, Calculus BC, Statistics, Literature and Composition, and Microeconomics. His schedule also includes Computer Graphics and Music Appreciation, along with the senior Theology course.
Brendan advises freshmen, “Take as many Honors or AP classes as possible. Don’t be afraid to push yourself - you will be rewarded in the end.”
Brendan is a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Council, and the Link Crew, as well as the Medical Club, the Mock Trial team, and the Military History Club. In Mock Trial, he received a “Star Witness” Award when the team competed in March 2024.
He plans to participate in the 2025 HOSA Competition, an activity of the Medical Club; HOSA is aimed at students interested in the health professions.
Brendan is leaning toward a major in biology and becoming a dentist, and looking at the University of Michigan, the University of Notre Dame, Ohio State University, Michigan State University, New York University, and Boston College. He would like to play club lacrosse in college.
Brendan attended St. Anne Grade School (Warren) for his entire grade school career (K-8) and chose to attend De La Salle because he “appreciated the sense of community.”
He added, “I felt I would receive a great education that would prepare me for a successful future.”
Faculty member Mr. Ben Westphal, DLS Class of 2016, says, “Brendan is a fantastic scholar, leader, and role model. He is a Pilot who truly cares about what he does and how he does it.”
Westphal, who works with the school’s Link Crew and National Honor Society, says Brendan works frequently with struggling students.
“Over time, he contributes to their improvement in and out of the classroom through constant mentorship and encouragement.”
Westphal goes on, “He is always willing to lend a helping hand. He truly exemplifies the Lasallian value of service. He has an incredibly bright future ahead.”
Brendan’s father Kevin is a Class of 1989 graduate, as well as a cousin, Andy Andre, Class of 1991.
Brendan lives in Sterling Heights with his parents Kevin and Shannon and attends Mass at St. Anne (Warren).
