Congratulations to senior Brendan Milligan, who has completed the requirements for the Eagle Scout Award.
Milligan’s project involved creating a more accessible storage location for donated goods at his church, Holy Innocents in Roseville.
The current storage area in the church’s basement had shelves with water damage; Milligan’s project involved cleaning out a more accessible room, painting the room, building and staining shelves, and then finally moving the unexpired food.
As part of the project, Milligan raised money by collecting empty pop cans; the funds then were used to purchase paint, some hardware items like screws, and lumber for the additional shelving. Milligan also re-used some of the metal shelving.
Milligan is involved with DLS Campus Ministry and has served as an altar boy and sacristan at both DLS and his home parish.
He also plays trumpet in the DLS Band and participates in E-Sports and the Sportsmen’s Club.
Mr. Mike Jolly, who heads the Sportsmen’s Club, has high praise for Milligan.
“I first met Brendan when he joined our Clay Target Shooting Program four years ago,” Jolly said. “ I've always found Brendan to be genuine and of very high character - an outstanding representative of his family, our school, and the Scouts.”
Jolly also noted Milligan’s interest in the history of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).
“Brendan has offered to be the custodian of a number of BSA documents and training manuals which once belonged to my father-in-law, Leonard Brindley. He was Macomb County’s first Eagle Scout who received his Eagle Scout honor from the BSA founder, Lord Baden-Powell himself!”
Milligan will graduate cum laude with the Class of 2023. He is currently enrolled in the Advanced Placement (AP) Statistics class and has taken several honors courses throughout his high school career.
Milligan will be working this summer as the Outdoor Skills Director at a Boy Scout camp, Cole Canoe Base, in Alger County, MI, near West Branch.
He attended the Lake Shore Public Schools prior to entering De La Salle. He lives in Eastpointe with his parents Brian (DLS ‘88) and Bernadette Milligan.
