Senior Spotlight: Cameron Conklin

Cameron Conklin set himself a goal as a freshman: to become the Class of 2024 Valedictorian.

After reviewing seventh-semester grades, the DLS Administration identified him as the top student in the class.

"I am really happy," Cameron said. "To finally accomplish this goal feels great."

But Cameron is not only an accomplished student academically. He has been active in a variety of student activities all four years while maintaining his place as the top student in his class all four years.

This year, Cameron is taking six Advanced Placement (AP) courses: Statistics, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Microeconomics, Literature and Composition, and Psychology.

He took AP U.S. History as a sophomore; his junior year schedule included four AP classes: Biology, Language and Composition, Government, and Calculus AB.

Cameron has been a captain of the DLS tennis team the last two years, and is particularly proud of the Fall 2023 team which made it to the MHSAA State Finals.

He also played football his freshman and sophomore years. As a sophomore, in the Fall of 2022, Cameron was moved up to varsity, netting him a state championship ring when DLS beat Traverse City Central 41 - 14 in the Division 2 game.

Cameron is a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Council. He is active with the SAVE Club, a co-founder of the Ping Pong Club, the HOSA (Medical Club) Vice-President, the World Cultures Club, and VP of the newly formed Philosophy Club.

Cameron plans to pursue a career as an orthopedic surgeon.

"I like to help others," Cameron said. "I'm strong in Math and Science, and really want that as a career."

He is one of five boys. Two older brothers did not attend DLS, but his brother Jayden is a DLS alumnus from the Class of 2021. Cameron's younger brother is currently in middle school.

The Conklin family lives in Macomb Township and attends St. Isidore in Macomb. His parents are Robert and Kelly Conklin.
