Recently, senior Evan Cole was recognized by the Daughters of the American Revolution for his “qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities.” Evan is pictured in the photo below with Mrs. Annmarie Michol, DLS Curriculum Coordinator.
His leadership is extremely evident at De La Salle: Captain of the Varsity Swim Team, President of the National Honor Society (Vice-President his junior year), and a Link Crew leader.
Additionally, he has been a Kairos Retreat Assistant Rector and is a Eucharistic Minister.
His activities at DLS also include participation in DECA, where he was a state finalist in his category in 2024.
Evan has been accepted at several colleges, including Michigan State University, Western Michigan University, Northwood, and Oakland. He will most likely attend MSU, and plans to major in Finance with a minor in Wealth Management and Real Estate.
Evan is on track to graduate summa cum laude.
His classes the last four years include several Advanced Placement (AP) classes: Computer Science, English Language and Composition, Psychology, and Statistics
He attended Carlton Middle School (Sterling Heights), and chose to attend DLS “because it was the best fit for me.”
Evan is one of numerous family members who are DLS alumni, including his grandfather Frank Bova, Class of 1960.
Others include his older brother, Noah Cole, Class of 2020; uncles Bob Bova (1983) and Dave Bova (1986); and cousin David Bova (2022).
He will take many memories of DLS with him, including leading a Kairos retreat, the state swim meet, and the annual DLS Ski and Snowboard Club trip to Boyne Ski Resort..
Evan advises freshmen to “work hard in everything that you do and try new things.”
DLS Varsity Swim Coach Jim Singelyn, DLS Class of 1990, says, “Evan is one of the kindest kids I've had the pleasure of teaching and coaching. I think he's going to do big things after he leaves DLS.”
Faculty member Mr. Brad Robinson, assistant varsity swim coach, describes Evan as a hard worker who “always wants to do the right thing.”
Outside of school, Evan is a caddy at the Lochmoor Golf Club
He lives in Sterling Heights with his parents Chris Cole and Karen Bova Cole.
The family attends St. Malachy, also in Sterling Heights; Evan is also an altar server there.
Sister Kathleen Matz, CDP, Campus Minister at DLS, says, Evan is a friendly, respectful student who is always willing to pitch in and help. She notes Evan is also a lector for DLS Masses and was commissioned this year as an Extraordinary Minister of the Euchatist (EME).
She adds, “Evan always has a cheerful hello for me and has a lovely rapport with his fellow students.”
Faculty member Mr. Ben Westphal, DLS Class of 2016, describes Evan as “a leader who has made the most of his time at DLS. He has molded himself into a true Lasallian man. His leadership is what our world needs.”
