Senior Graham Gill will be graduating summa cum laude and is heading to Michigan Technology University and the Pavlis Honors College to major in civil engineering.
He said he has “always had a fascination for building stuff and creating things,” and” played with a lot of legos as a child.”
Graham as received substantial scholarship money from Michigan Tech to help with his tuition.
But the senior’s talents go well beyond the classroom and his numerous Advanced Placement courses: AP Physics, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Chemistry, AP Microeconomics, AP Government, and AP Language and Composition.
Graham has served as President of the DLS SAVE (Students Against Vandalizing the Environment), the school group that handles recycling in the building, and also engages in a variety of projects throughout the school year. Recently, DLS received the Green School designation, and Graham was honored for his exceptional work with the SAVE Club as the Student of the Month inAoruk 2024.
A key member of the DLS Robotics team that went to Houston, TX, April 2024 for International Competition, Graham served as the drive team operator.
In addition to SAVE Club and Robotics, Graham is a member of the National Honor Society and also played varsity football.
Head coach Dan Rohn said, “I was honored to have Graham Gill a part of our football program for the past four years. He was a leader for us at practice, in the hallways, and academically. He truly represents DLS in everything he does.”
Graham has also served as captain of the Sportsmen’s Club, moderated by Mr. Mike Jolly.
Jolly said, “Graham is one of the most dependable people that I know. His word is his
bond and when he says that he will do something, it can be considered done. Graham possesses an interesting charisma. Many people, especially teenagers, are impressed with noise and activity. Once again, Graham is different. His friendly leadership is subtle and solid. He not only interacts well with a wide variety of personalities and range of ages but, most importantly, he models mature, honest, servant-minded behavior.”
Graham has also received a $1,000 scholarship from the local chapter of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation, a group which has generously supported DLS and the Sportsmen’s Club.
Among his many high school activities, Graham says his most important memories are the Kairos Retreat, going to Houston with the DLS Robotics team for international competition, and going to three state championships with the varsity football team.
Graham attended eighth grade at Pierce Middle School in Grosse Pointe Park, and then started his freshman year at Grosse Pointe South. He decided to transfer to De La Salle after his first semester.
His advice for freshmen? “There is no time like the present to create good study habits and stay off of social media.
Graham’s parents are Matthew and Kelly Gill. The family lives in Clinton Township and attends St. Paul of Tarsus.
