Senior Spotlight: Jack Madigan

Senior Jack Madigan has some advice for freshmen: “Get involved around school. Join as many clubs as you can. Explore your options. As you grow, you can always narrow it down to what you like to do. If I could do it all over again, I would join more.”

One of the top 10 students in the Class of 2025, Jack has managed to achieve a high GPA while taking numerous Honors and Advanced Placement classes AND being involved in a wide variety of activities.

Jack is a member of the DLS Student Council, the National Honor Society, the Link Crew, the Mock Trial team, the Law Club, and DECA.

In DECA, he and his partner, Chris Azzi, have competed in the team decision-making event for the buying and merchandising category, making it to the state conference their sophomore year and to the state finals as juniors. This year, the two plan to compete in the same category, aiming to qualify for the international DECA competition

Jack has also played lacrosse since freshman year and plans to play this year; he is a midfielder. He says lacrosse has been his most enjoyable activity at DLS, and cites the friendships he has made with other players.

"Although I have neither taught nor coached Jack regularly, we see one another often,” said Mr. Mike Jolly, the “father” of DLS lacrosse. “He has consistently maintained the great impression that he made when we first met in 2021. He is intelligent, athletic, and involved in a wide variety of activities. In short, when you include his friendly and outgoing personality, he is an ideal ambassador for De La Salle. I am eager to witness his continued growth during this school year and am confident that he will shine brilliantly."

Principal Brother Ken Kalinowski, FSC, DLS Class of 1984, has high praise for Jack.

“Jack is a fine representation of a true Pilot!” said Brother Ken. “He is involved in all aspects of the Collegiate, is always friendly, and has the respect of his classmates, teachers, and the administration.”

Although Jack’s twin sister attends Grosse Pointe North, Jack chose to attend De La Salle after eighth grade.

“I had a Catholic education growing up, at St. Joan of Arc,” he said. “Going to De La Salle felt like the right path.”

He added, “A lot of my friends were going to De La Salle. I liked the brotherhood aspect, and that De La Salle is a smaller school - it made for an easier transition.”

Mr. Ben Westphal, DLS Class of 2016, said, “It has been an honor to work with Jack throughout his Pilot journey. He has been an active NHS member and an excellent Link Crew Leader. He is positively mentoring younger students for success. Jack displays Lasallian values through his care and compassion towards his peers, faculty, and staff members, and those he serves in the community.”

Jack has already taken several Advanced Placement (AP) classes, beginning with U.S. History his sophomore year.

As a junior, he took AP Chemistry, AP English Language and Composition, AP Calculus AB, AP Microeconomics, and AP Government.

His senior schedule includes AP English Literature and Composition, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, and AP Spanish.

Mr. Thaier Mukhtar said, “Jack is a wonderful young man with a bright future. He is mature beyond his years and takes his academics very seriously. Jack will positively impact society. He is a Christian who strives to excel in everything he does. He excelled in my AP Government class and is a role model to others. He was a pleasure to have in class. I have no doubt he will make DLS proud of his future accomplishments.”

Jack would like to attend the University of Michigan and may pursue Law or Business.

Although he is not on the DLS Swim team, Jack has worked for the past two summers as a lifeguard at the Grosse Pointe Woods Lakefront Park.

“I was looking for a job that was fun, and some friends were already guarding,”  he said.

Jack lives in Grosse Pointe Woods with his parents Tim and Jenni; Tim has been active with the DLS Dads’ Club and is the group’s President for 2024-2025.
