Recent Class of 2025 graduate Joshua Ross, who graduated magna cum laude, is headed to Grand Valley State University where he plans to major in business economics and minor in law.
Josh was on the DLS Honor Roll all four years while also playing varsity soccer and winning the state championship his senior year. He cites scoring two goals and two assists in that state championship game as one of his best memories of his four years at DLS.
He was the varsity soccer team captain both his junior and senior years, was All-State Academic for soccer, and named to the All-State First team both years as well.
Josh attended Beer Middle School in Warren and chose to follow in his older brother’s footsteps and attend De La Salle for the school’s academic program; Brandon Ross graduated in 2019.
Josh’s transcript includes three Advanced Placement (AP) courses: AP Psychology, AP American Government, and AP Microeconomics.
He has an outside job caddying at a local golf course. During his junior and senior years, he helped coach girls’ soccer at Warren Woods Tower - a job he got through DLS Varsity Soccer Coach Mr. Thaier Mukhtar whose brother Skipper is the team's coach.
In addition to his soccer activities, Josh became involved with the school’s Campus Ministry program, and was the leader of the recent Kairos 55 Retreat.
He said one of his best memories of De La Salle is “watching the impact the Kairos 55 leaders had on the retreatants.”
Josh advises freshmen: “In these upcoming four years you will go through many ups and downs but always remember that DLS is a family, and your brothers, teachers, friends are always there for you.”
Mr. Ben Westphal, DLS ‘16, coordinates the twice a year Kairos retreats. He said this about Josh:
“Josh is a kind, caring, and respectful man that our world needs! Words cannot describe how proud I am of this student leader and the utmost respect I have for him. He is an outstanding leader who cares for the well-being of others. As a soccer captain and state champion, he flawlessly pushed his entire team through the successes and challenges of the season. In January, he was named Rector for Kairos 55. He truly impacted the lives of the leadership team and the retreatants so that they could all grow closer to God. Josh has such a bright future ahead of him. He truly embodies what it not only means to be a Lasallian man, but what it means be a true representation of a De La Salle Pilot.”
Josh and his parents David Ross and Annette Gattari-Ross live in Warren. The family attends Mass at St. Louise (Warren) or St. Rene de Goupil (Sterling Heights). Josh also attended most of the “Mass Mobs.” attending Mass at local parishes, sponsored by DLS Campus Ministry during the 2024-2025 school year.
