Senior Spotlight: Nicholas S. Moore

Although senior Nicholas “Nick” S. Moore transferred as a sophomore to De La Salle, he became very involved not only with academics but also a number of school activities.

An “All-A” student at Dakota High School, Nick decided to transfer and pursue the academic offerings at DLS. His older brother went to Dakota, but Nick had many friends at DLS.

He brought his strong Math background of accelerated algebra and geometry classes and took the DLS Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry course as a sophomore, AP Calculus AB as a junior, and is currently enrolled in the AP Calculus BC course.

His senior schedule also includes AP Psychology and AP Chemistry; Nick completed the AP Language and Composition and AP Computer Science Principles courses as a junior.

NIck has never earned less than an A in any of his high school courses and is in the top five of the Class of 2025.

He is a member of the National Honor Society, DECA, the Link Crew, and the World Cultures Club.

His participation in the Spring 2024 Kairos Retreat inspired him to pursue receiving the sacraments; during the 2024 Easter Vigil Mass at St. Malachy, he received the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. Most recently, he served as a Leader on the Fall 2024 Kairos Retreat.

Nick is a member of St. Isidore Parish in Macomb Township, where he lives with his parents Sean and Melissa Moore.

Nick would like to attend the University of Michigan and pursue a career in electrical engineering. As a child, he enjoyed working with Lego sets - he says he has “thousands” of Lego pieces.

“I’ve always been fascinated about taking things apart and putting them together,” he said. “Technology is the way of the future.”

Although Nick has a full academic schedule, he works about 20 hours a week as a busboy at the Da Francesco restaurant in Shelby Township.

He advises freshmen ”to embrace every opportunity that comes your way.”

Nick adds, “You are fortunate to have access to incredible resources at our school, so don't hesitate to explore your interests and passions—make the most of your time here!”

Faculty members have high praise for Nick.

“We are thrilled Nick joined the De La Salle Family a few years ago,” said Ben Westphal, ‘16, who teaches English and is the moderator of the school’s National Honor Society, is a Kairos Co-Director, and is a moderator of the Link Crew. “Nick is a natural-born leader who is an academic powerhouse. He is a leader in the National Honor Society and Link Crew, and he continues to tutor fellow Pilots in all subjects. I believe he will excel and change the world. It has been the ultimate honor to see his growth and development over the past few years.”

Math teacher Joe Novak, ‘03, says, “Nick’s dedication to learning and his positive attitude make a significant impact in the classroom environment. Nick also supports his peers, demonstrating remarkable leadership and kindness.”

And Social Studies teacher Jim Singelyn, ‘90, sums it up as: “He's the type of young man that alumni can be proud of!”
