Congratulations to senior Nico Palazzolo, graduating cum laude this weekend, and heading to Adrian to play lacrosse. He plans to major in business management.
Nico has been the varsity lacrosse captain, and “is probably the most recognized and admired lacrosse player in southeast Michigan” according to veteran lacrosse coach Mr. Mike Jolly.
Current varsity coach Chris Ferrari has high praise for Nico.
"Nico is one of the hardest working and most dedicated players that I've had the opportunity to work with during more than 40 years of lacrosse, Ferrari said. "He takes on great personal responsibility for the success of the team. But his reach is broader than just within our program. His friendships and connections with players across many other teams is a testimony to his character."
In addition to his participation in lacrosse, Nico has been one of the students playing “Captain Spirit” and is present at many school events.
He has also been a Link Crew leader, a Kairos leader, and a Student Ambassador for the Admissions Department.
Faculty member Mr. Ben Westphal says, “Nico is the definition of a Pilot!”
Westphal adds, “He is a fantastic role model for young students and embodies Lasallian values in every way. He has faced adversity head-on and has crushed each obstacle in front of him. I am so proud of how he has evolved over these last four years.”
Nico has played lacrosse since third grade and is an offensive middie. He plays year-round and is a member of the 313 Lacrosse Club team.
He attended Carter Middle School, chose to attend De La Salle, his “childhood dream,” and says he “always looked up to the school.” His uncle Scott Davis is a DLS alumnus, Class of 1990.
In addition to lacrosse, Nico has enjoyed playing IM Cornhole.
His favorite class at DLS has been Math, and his favorite teacher is Mrs. Kathleen Erickson.
Nico advises freshmen to “strive to be your best at all times, even during your hardest times.”
His parents are Frank and Kelly Palazzolo, and he has two younger sisters, one a sophomore in high school and the other a grade-schooler at St. Anne’s. The family lives in Warren.
While Nico is pursuing a college degree, he does plan to become an electrician and join his father in the construction business.
