De La Salle Collegiate was the recipient of two special tributes from the Michigan State Senate on Friday, January 21. State Senator Michael MacDonald, ‘98, and Senator for Michigan’s 10th District, was joined by the city of Warren Mayor James Fouts in delivering proclamations to members of the De La Salle community during the school day.
The first tribute recognized De La Salle for the dedication of the new alumni Military Wall of Honor. The second tribute honored the 2021 DLS varsity football team for winning the Division 2 state championship, plus achieving the first undefeated season in school history.
“Growing up in Mount Clemens and going to St. Thecla in Clinton Twp., I’m very loyal to my hometown of Macomb County. I can’t tell you the pride that I have in my alma mater, De La Salle, for all it does for the community and continues to achieve as a school,” said Senator MacDonald. “My dad told me when I was young that there was always something special about the De La Salle brand. He said that going there will be a decision that you will always hold dear and never regret as you get older. Being back at the school Friday made that more apparent than ever before.”
The Pilots football team also earned Academic All-State honors, becoming the only Michigan high school team to win a state championship and be the No.1 ranked team in its division academically this past season.
“As a former teacher, I am not only impressed by what De La Salle achieved on the field this season, but also in the classroom,” said Mayor Fouts.
Wall of Military Honor Tribute:
LET IT BE KNOWN, that it is with great honor we recognize De La Salle Collegiate for their efforts to honor and remember all of the alumni that have served in the United States Military.
On November 7, 2021, the De La Salle Community gathered at the school for the unveiling of their new alumni Wall of Military Honor. This wall has been dedicated to each veteran who has served and graduated from De La Salle Collegiate in Warren and Detroit.
The purpose of this wall is to honor those graduates who have served and to also inspire current and future students to consider serving our country. This small ceremonial wall will have a tremendous impact upon so many future students to come, and we hope this will always continue to serve as inspiration to our future generation.
IN SPECIAL TRIBUTE, there this tribute is signed and dedicated to not only honor our veterans but to also recognize De La Salle Collegiate on their efforts to recognize past students and inspire future generations.
