Students Create Displays of the Stations of the Cross

Our DLS Freshmen recently had an assignment to photograph the Stations of the Cross at various parishes as a reminder of Christ’s humanity. (Note: during Lent, the DLS Campus Ministry Department organized weekly Stations of the Cross prayer services).

Students were to take pictures of the stations, either inside or outside of the church, and create a display showing the stations; students are encouraged to gift their final display.

Projects were displayed this past week in the Commons, the school’s main hallway.

Theology teacher Mrs. Shelley Slusser, who assigned the project, listed these objectives:

  1. Spiritual Reflection: To help students meditate on the suffering, death, and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, deepening their understanding of His Passion.
  2. Faith Formation: To connect classroom learning with personal faith by engaging them in a traditional Catholic devotion.
  3. Active Participation: To encourage creative and active participation in the Lenten season through art, research, or presentation.
  4. Empathy and Connection: To foster empathy by inviting students to relate the Stations to modern struggles or personal experiences.
  5. Learning Church Tradition: To teach the historical and liturgical significance of the Stations in Catholic worship and how they are practiced.

Mrs. Slusser said, "The students did such an amazing job! I am so proud of them."
