As De La Salle Collegiate students complete the first full week of school, more than 30 additional young men have transferred to DLS from both public and area Catholic high schools.
While the Admissions Department has been busy talking with transfer students and their parents, and gathering the appropriate information to create a schedule, the Counseling Department is working directly with students to provide each student with a schedule.
“This is an unprecedented time we are living in,” Admissions Director Zach Issa said. “Fortunately, prospective families are taking the time to learn about the opportunities that DLS provides. A big factor in their decision is that DLS is able to provide a safe, face-to-face learning atmosphere for their sons.”
The Counseling Department has been able to work with each transfer to come up with a schedule.
“There’s no one size fits all,” said counselor Jon Hickey. “For the most part, it has worked out to integrate students into the existing class schedule.”
Hickey adds, “The counselors are here to help and support the transition, not only in courses but in adjusting to life at DLS.”
Issa said that the transfers are happy with the DLS environment.
“Our transfers are happy here, and seeing the special brotherhood of DLS,” Issa said. “Some of them are saying this is the first time they have actually loved coming to school.”
Interested families should contact the DLS Admissions Office as soon as possible. DLS will continue to accept transfer students as long as applications are submitted no later than Friday, September 3.
