University of Notre Dame Folk Choir Performs at DLS

The De La Salle Collegiate Family welcomed the University of Notre Dame Folk Choir this morning for a presentation in the Bill Fox Gymnasium.

The sixty-plus members of the ND Choir performed for the student body and friends of De La Salle as part of the Choir’s week-long tour through Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.

In addition to performing at DLS, the group had an evening presentation at St. Hugo of the Hills.

The Folk Choir, founded in the late 1970s, is one of Notre Dame’s principal liturgical choirs, singing every Sunday during the academic year at the noon liturgy in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.

The choir’s musical offerings represent numerous cultural traditions, with a special emphasis on contemporary music; the choir's directors have composed and arranged many pieces in its repertoire.

The Folk Choir has released fourteen albums. Its most recent album, The Passion, released in 2022, was recorded in Jerusalem.

The choir has traveled to five continents, with recent tours to East Africa and the Holy Land.

The current director of the Folk Choir is Dr. J.J. Wright, a graduate of the Christian Brothers’ school in Buffalo, NY, St. Joseph Collegiate Institute.
