Veteran English teacher Mr. David Kirck (Class of 1983) is teaching four sections of sophomore Theology this school year. He is continuing to teach the Advanced Placement (AP) Literature and Composition course.
Kirck says he “welcomes the challenge” of teaching Theology courses for the first time. He became a certified catechist this past summer with coursework from Sacred Heart Major Seminary (Detroit).
Along with Principal Brother Ken Kalinowski, FSC (Class of 1984) and Facilities Director Mr. Joseph Gerardi (Class of 1986), Kirck is teaching the New Testament course during the first semester and the Christology Course during the second.
“I was ready to do something different,” Kirck said.
KIrck has taught at De La Salle since 1990. A graduate of the University of Michigan with a double major in History and English, he earned his Master’s in History at Eastern Michigan University, along with his teacher certification.
His son Gabriel graduated from DLS in 2020 and played college baseball at Olivet where he majored in sports management. Gabe is currently playing a fifth year at St. Xavier in Chicago while working on his MBA.
Kirck’s wife Erika teaches in the Grosse Pointe Public Schools. The Kircks are also the parents of three daughters.
