De La Salle Collegiate President John M. Knight announced today that John Monigold, ‘66, will become Alumni Relations Director Emeritus effective, January 1, 2018. Although John has thought of retiring, he has chosen to transition to part-time status, and will continue to be involved with De La Salle in many ways, including attending alumni events and reunions, and assisting with the Annual Raffle and the Christian Brothers’ Dinner.
President Knight said, “John Monigold is a valuable member of our De La Salle community, and I am so pleased that rather than outright retirement, he has chosen to continue to remain involved. John’s Lasallian ‘charism’ comes through in all that he does.”
Since 2006, John has served in the Advancement Department as Alumni Relations Director. A long-time volunteer, he began working at De La Salle in 1987 as Advancement Director, and has been involved with the Christian Brothers’ Dinner since its inception in 1982. He was the Dinner Honoree in 2011, and in 2015, he was named a Benefactor of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (BFSC).
John reflected, “A wise person once said, ‘Do something that you like and you won’t have to work a day in your life.’ That has truly been the case with me as I have been fortunate to have attended De La Salle Collegiate, and served as a volunteer and employee of the school for approximately fifty years. A long time indeed but I have not regretted even one day. Although I will not be working as a full-time employee I will still be involved. De La Salle will always be in my heart. Go Pilots!”
Director of Advancement Chris Czarnik said, “John Monigold wanted to make this happen, and the result is a great situation for him and for De La Salle. He will have the flexibility and time to enjoy the benefits he has earned from a lifetime of service to his alma mater. And yet, he will continue to contribute in ways that have made him such a valuable part of De La Salle’s mission, most importantly building and maintaining lasting, sincere relationships. John Monigold and De La Salle just go together. I am so happy for John, and know our colleagues share that sentiment.”
