DLS graduate Zack Zschering recently signed to play college baseball at Adrian College, where he intends to earn a Business degree, with majors in Accounting and Marketing.
The three-year varsity baseball player is a left-handed pitcher who started and relieved. He also plays outfield (center) and first base. Zack captained the baseball team this year.
Varsity Head Coach Matt Cook said, “Zack works hard and gained the respect of his teammates and coaches. This led to his being named captain. It says a lot about his character.”
Athletic Director Brian Kelly, who also coached varsity baseball said, “He played all of those positions flawlessly. His ability to play multiple positions helped the team be successful this year.”
In addition to baseball, Zack was also a three-year varsity hockey player, anchoring the defense. Kelly said, “He became one of the very best players in the very best league in the State. He has been named to the MIHL honor team and also the All-State team.”
Zack captained the DLS varsity hockey team his junior and senior years.
The six-time varsity letter winner was also named the “Tony De Santis Man of the Year” at a special dinner earlier this month.
Coach Cook said, “Zack is the perfect person to be named the Man of the Year. Not only was he captain of two varsity sports. He approaches those sports with humility and grace. Zack is respected by his teammates for his work ethic and positive attitude.”
