Congratulations to the winners of the 2017 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest.
Seniors Russell Hu, Matthew Isopi, and Matthew Lawrence each wrote essays addressing the topic “How can Dr. King’s dream be advanced among your peers?”
The entries were judged on the basis or clearly expressed ideas, and how the student related his own personal ideas or experiences to the topic and showed an understanding of Dr. King’s ideals.
The contest is annually sponsored by the DLS Diversity Committee.
Past contest winners include
- Paul Manuszak, Vincent Manzo, Christian Stelkic (2016)
- Andrew Davis, William Hodges, Kristopher LaRosa (2015)
The Essay Contest is one of several events sponsored by each year by the Diversity Committee.
Recently, NFL player Carl Davis Jr. addressed the entire student body on his life, emphasizing the importance of hard work and perseverance. Davis is a Detroit-area native who played football at Sterling Heights High School, and attended the University of Iowa. He plays for the Baltimore Ravens.
During March, the Diversity Committee will recognize Women’s History Month.
