Effective July 1, Mr. Joseph Gerardi will transition from the Theology classroom into the newly created position of Vice-President of Mission and Ministry.
He will be responsible for all Lasallian, Catholic formation for faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents and trustees. He will also have direct supervision of our Campus Ministry and service programs.
This represents a strategic realignment of resources as De La Salle Collegiate seeks to strengthen its Lasallian, Catholic identity.
Mr. Gerardi says, “I am humbled by being entrusted with this role and look forward to helping our school community grow in its commitment to the mission of John Baptist de La Salle and ultimately to the mission of Christ himself. There are many great things in place, and I am excited to expand opportunities for spiritual growth and Christian service for students and adults alike.”
Mr. Gerardi is a 1986 graduate of De La Salle Collegiate, and has been teaching Theology at De La Salle since 2016. He also has teaching experience at Mercy High School (7 years), University of Detroit-Jesuit (5 years), and Shrine High School (3 years).
President John M. Knight said, “I am looking forward to working with Joe as we seek to strengthen our Lasallian, Catholic heritage. Joe brings his many gifts and talents to this position at a critical time in our school’s history. The options for high school in our metropolitan area are numerous Our distinguishing characteristic is our Lasallian identity. For the past 91 years we have followed in the footsteps of our founder St.John Baptist de La Salle. The work that Joe will undertake is work that is foundational to who we are – a school founded on the educational and spiritual philosophy of St. John Baptist de La Salle – the patron saint of teachers in the Roman Catholic church.”
Mr. Brian Barker, who has served as Campus Minister for the last several years, is returning to the classroom to teach Theology.
