ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – Last month, Danny Triglia was named beneficiary of the George Sahadi Memorial Scholarship for Academic and Athletic Success.

The scholarship, sponsored by the Bishop Gallagher Football Alumni, was also awarded to Triglia prior to the 2017-18 school year.

The scholarship is awarded to a current De La Salle student-athlete who is a descendant of a Bishop Gallagher alumnus. Triglia, a De La Salle junior, is the son of Joe Triglia, who played four years for Sahadi’s Lancers.

For more than four decades, Sahadi coached football at seven different Catholic League schools. He was best known for his 31-year career – including 29 years as head coach – at Bishop Gallagher. The co-ed high school in Harper Woods closed in 2001. Sahadi died in 2006.

“Of course I may be biased, but I am very proud of Danny,” said his mom, Kathleen Triglia. “He works very hard to maintain his grades and become a better football player.”

Former University of Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr was on hand to present Triglia with his scholarship at Encore Banquet Hall in St. Clair Shores.
